Spring Mountain Wine Community

Growing Wine Above the Napa Valley

Getting Started

If you are just getting started here are some suggestions:

  • Be sure to upload a photo of yourself.  We want to see the smiling faces of everyone in our mountain community.  Just go to “My Page” after logging in and you will see a “Change My Photo” under where your photo should be. Click on it and you will be taken to “My Settings – Profile” where you will see “Profile Photo.” Click on the camera and a box will open to upload a photo. Browse for it on your computer, select it and click “Done.”  Be sure to save your changes at the bottom.  Your new photo should appear when you are on My Page. (The page is formatted for a square photo 175 pixels by 175 pixels, so if yours is a different shape it may be cropped improperly. You can cure this by cropping the photo yourself to a square shape.)
  • Click on the "Groups" tab and read through the list of different areas of interest. Each group is a private conference room for meeting and interacting with like-minded individuals. They provide a private area to meet, arrange off-line meet-ups, discuss topics that can be completely separate from the main discussion area. You can create your own group, and note that all groups do not have to be open to the public. For example, “SMD Association Members is intended only for conducting the business of the association, posting internal documents,  and is only available to association members.
    • Join as many groups as you want, start your own group, and remember to get the RSS feeds to stay in touch with new topics.
    • If you are a member of the SMDA, please join the Association group so that you can access documents and discussions of the association
  • Browse the topics on the main page as these are recent 'hot topics' from the general forums. These can be quite varied, hence the separate and more focused discussions in the Groups. Do not hesitate to join in as these are meant as conversations. You'll be kept up-to-date when others respond.
  • Browse the list of members and check out familiar names, and their friends. Be sure to click on "add as friend" to let them know you have joined the party and make it easy to connect with them.
  • Add as much detail on your profile as possible to make the networking aspect of the site as useful as possible. Many members will benefit in this way from new contacts.
  • Come back often and encourage your friends to join our community.
Can I tweet?
  • There are widgets for things like Twitter where you can place the widgets in your profile and capture feeds. Twitter Tracker is a Profile App developed for this platform that tracks mentions of your favorite terms across Twitter. If you want to use it, it is available on your profile page. Just click on Add Profile Apps under your picture and it will take you to Twitter Tracker and many other possibilities. We also can create an account for our social network, a personal account, or both, and use them to promote the network and its content to users of Twitter.
